The Client

NetEase, a $12 billion Chinese internet company with several successful online and mobile games.

The Challenge

NetEase North America wanted to explore and better understand the geographic, demographic, and income-based segments which held the most promising opportunities for its business.  It also wanted profiles of its target customers, so as to better communicate with and market to them.

The Solution

In collaboration with NetEase’s marketing team, EdgePeak designed a comprehensive survey with dozens of quantitative and qualitative questions in order to better identify opportunities as well as to profile target customers.  EdgePeak then calculated the minimum number of respondents required for the results to be statistically representative for the target market.  Finally, to acquire qualified respondents EdgePeak created advertisements inviting readers to respond to the survey, and featured them on several prominent internet sites.

The Result

Respondents to the survey greatly exceeded the minimum required number.  After analyzing the respondents’ data, EdgePeak consultants produced a comprehensive report describing the results, including recommendations for the pockets of opportunity to pursue as well as detailed profiles of target customers.  These findings were presented to the management team of NetEase North America, which utilized the findings to more finely tune both its product development timeline and marketing messages.
